Sunrise Avenue wurde 2002 in Helsinki gegründet. Bereits vor ihrem ersten Album konnten sie sich in ihrer Heimat als erfolgreiche Liveband in vielen Clubs etablieren.Nachdem sie von 102 Produzenten abgelehnt wurden, bekam Produzent
Jukka Backlund (zu der Zeit noch bei Killer Aspect)
Interesse, während er die Band im Dezember 2004 live auftreten sah.
Zusammen mit ihm beschlossen sie ein Album aufzunehmen ohne überhaupt einen Plattenvertrag zu haben. Die dazu benötigten finanziellen Mittel stellte ein Fan der Band durch den
Verkauf seines Hauses zur Verfügung.Im Sommer 2005 unterschrieben sie einen Vertrag bei Bonnier Amigo Music Group (verantwortlich für den finnischen Markt), ein Jahr später bei der EMI Group.
Nachdem sie die ersten Singles, All Because Of You und Romeo, Anfang 2006 veröffentlicht hatten, brachte Sunrise Avenue im Mai ihr On The Way To Wonderland- Album in Finnland heraus.
Die dritte Single, Fairytale Gone Bad, wurde am 23. August in ihrem Heimatland veröffentlicht und erreichte den
zweiten Platz der finnischen Charts.
